Derious (Derrick) Braswell is a Program Manager for Chicago Debates. He approaches his work with a particular eye for operations, logistics, strategy and efficiency while building debate programs and coaches on the ground. The work ranges from cultivating teams and coaches to tournament and project management. Derrick believes that through the power of debate, students will be empowered and informed participants in this thing called civics, or also known as the Intersection of Democracy & Debate!  

Being a Chicago transplant, Derrick has become an Illinois JusticeCorp Alum via AmeriCorp as well as an active Volunteer Board Member for YNPN Chicago serving as their Co-Chair for the Creating Space Initiative. Derrick was also an avid volunteer for Chicago Debates for three years, in positions like: Senior Camp Instructor, Judge and Judge Captain, before joining the team in August of 2021. 

Derrick received a Bachelors of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN and is completing a Masters in Business Management and Leadership at Western Governor University.
