Director of Development

Joining the Chicago Debates team at a pivotal point in their existence, Edward “Ed” Briscoe serves as the Director of Development or more affectionately known as the CEO of all things fundraising. With oversight of the organization’s revenue budget, Ed uses his expertise to focus efforts on donor retention, cultivation, meaningful solicitations and genuine stewardship; all leading to positive impact of Chicago Debates’ capacity to scale growth of students and programming for years to come.

Ed is no stranger to front-line major gift fundraising as he has served in leadership roles for over 14 years at some of Chicago’s foremost leading education and non-profit organizations. Ed is a staunch advocate for educational access and equity.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Fisk University, a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership and Organizational Change from Roosevelt University and he completed additional studies at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Marketing and Fundraising for School Leaders. Also, he has been recognized and honored as an Archbishop Lyke African-American Male Image awardee, three-time Chicago Public School commencement speaker, and Chicago Defender Men of Excellence honoree. 

Ed is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, Masonic Fraternity-Prince Hall Affiliated, 100 Black Men of Chicago and serves on the board of the Development Leadership Consortium where he is a 2019 Management Fellow.
