With more than 25 years of program management, community relations, marketing, and fundraising experience, Sylvia Nelson Jordan is the visionary manager of Academic Competitions for the Chicago Public Schools. Prior to this role, Sylvia served as a Senior Project Manager for the Chicago Public Schools CEO and Chief Education Office.

Sylvia’s work impacts more than 50,000 students through in school and out of school time programs and events. These dynamic options provide academic enrichment that leads to improved attendance and graduation rates, leadership opportunities, and preparation for postsecondary pathways.

Prior to joining CPS, Sylvia worked for the City of Chicago in various capacities including Office of Tourism, CAPS, and former Mayor Richard M. Daley. Her work with Chicago Debates has stood the test of time as she has been instrumental in growing the program from just a few schools to serving nearly one hundred schools across the city. Ms. Nelson Jordan is committed to ensuring that all schools are afforded the opportunity to engage in robust debate programs.
