At the end of three days of competition, Northside College Prep won its first-ever Varsity Chicago Debate Championship. Northside seniors Mitchell Caminer and Tom Trieu defeated the team of senior Sydney Doe and junior John Vitzileos from Whitney Young Magnet High School. In the Junior Varsity division, guest school Evanston Township won the championship, when Esther Isaac and Makaia Barnes defeated Northside’s Honglin Xiao and Sam Roth.

Said Robb Berry, Northside’s Director of Debate, “Winning our first city championship – particularly in the fashion we did it – was a rewarding cap to a season defined by the commitment and teamwork of our entire squad. We set this as a goal in August, and the team pursued it with the intensity we’ve come to expect here. It’s also a trophy that was made possible by the Northside debaters of previous years, whose efforts paved the way for the successes we’ve experienced this season.”
