Topic of the Year

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce its restrictions on legal immigration to the United States.

Each year, the debate topic is chosen by a vote of participating schools across the country. This year, students across Chicago will have the opportunity to debate core issues regarding a topic front and center in the news: immigration.

From policies designed to cap the number of immigrants coming into the country, to the recently created travel ban – students will be well versed in not just the political talking points, but in-depth research examining the impact of these policies from both sides.

As the year progresses, so too will students’ arguments. By the end of the year, debaters will be going head to head over the economics of immigration and its effect on domestic wage fluctuation and overall fiscal health for the U.S. and global economy. We are excited to see the arguments our debaters have in store!
